From Jorja Douglas signed to Island Records to Lauren Russell in the world's first Sparkly Metal band, our students are achieving remarkable things.
Our teaching studios at Meriden Community Centre are purpose-built for music tuition, not rehearsal rooms and not adapted shared spaces. Every studio is equipped with Yamaha instruments: 11 Yamaha electric guitars, 18 Yamaha PSR 700 series keyboards, 4 Yamaha DTX electronic drum kits, and 3 Yamaha PA systems across our studios.
You turn up. Everything is ready. No instrument needed for lessons. We do encourage all students to practise on their own instrument at home between lessons — that's where the real progress happens. Guitarists often bring their own guitar to lessons too, which is always welcome.
Music Gym lessons run at safe, teacher-controlled sound levels. Guitar and drums run through a Yamaha PA — the teacher sets the volume and can cut it instantly. Keyboards are played at teaching volumes on self-contained Yamaha instruments.
The WHO recommends children aren't exposed to sound above 75 decibels over extended periods. An acoustic drum kit averages 119dB. Research shows excessive noise causes mental fatigue and impairs concentration in children, with effects even more pronounced in kids with attention or language difficulties. Soundproofed studios protect the neighbours from the noise. Teacher-controlled sound levels protect your child's ears and set them up to learn without fatigue.
From day one, every student learns the most important rule in music: when the teacher speaks, you stop playing. Because great teaching starts with the right environment.
